Often it comes to my mind that to what extent the ‘Indian Cricket Team’ is truly Indian. With the kind of cricket monopoly BBCI is enjoying, I suggest that Indian Cricket team should be renamed as Club India similarly on the lines of several soccer clubs. There are several reasons behind my proposal — Firstly, BCCI, unless it is a club, has no right to ban players from participating in other leagues like ICL. After all cricket isn’t BCCI’s property. Secondly, players must be held accountable for their behaviour on the field and also about their non-cricket commitments, unless they belong to a franchise that I propose. Thirdly, there has to be transparent voting pattern in selection committee that should be made public because BCCI has to justify why ‘once a star cricketer’ like Ganguly is humiliated and left out midway inspite of his comparatively better performance when we are still carrying other liabilities like Sachin, Dravid, Bhajji and several others.
